walking down memory lane

It is summer and it is extremely hot around here,
more than I could bare at least.
I just don't know if this is part of getting older
or is it only the mid Julys ca 40 degrees celcius...?
Anyhow, the rhythm has slowed down a bit and
I just want to get some things done before leaving for holidays.
Sewing I have done very little as I am planing to dedicate
some days exclusively on that in august.
It is part of the plan of staying at home some days relaxing.
So for now and for farewell for vacations
I have some photos from the past that I want to share with you.
It was so much fun looking up all these past photos!

1.
my first work of art

I was about 5 years old I think,
my parents should have known right?!

2.
T-shirt transformations

a.to brighten up the gloomy weather
we had in Vienna I improvised this one.

this is NOT Vienna of course ;o))

 b.made from a vintage men's swimming suit,
 flea markets make my day!

c.refashioning basic T-shirts from H&M.

3.
dress transformations

a.improvised this one to make an appearence at
'Feria', local feast, in Seville.

This image may seen familiar to you,
these are the traditional dresses to wear...

 ...and this is me.

b.although the fabric is original, this was a typical granma' s dress
(bought in a flea market for no more than 2 euros I think!).
I just cut the upper part and the sleeves,
made a belt from the sleeves...et voilá!

And that was all!
The comeback will be some day in august,
have a good time on your vacations everyone!

the shops around the neighbourhood

The other day with dear Kat we investigated
the shops around the neighbourhood.

We discovered many interesting ones,
good prices and nice products:
I was happily surprised!
It felt like home as I remembered all those years as a child
that we we were walking with mom the same streets
in order to get new clothes for the summer or
the coming school year.
Those were the 90s, oh yes!
Many people "hate" them because of the poor style in clothes,
but I really love them!
(Asi still laughs at my hot pants that I was wearing in the 6th grade,
we had bought them in one of these shops actualy...)
The 2000s passed by with me being older, modern and independent
and although I like the fashion that big stores have to offer,
I can't help but feel sorry that I have completly forgotten the local market.
I will drink to that and I will urge you to look around before you head
for the mall. At least this is what I will try to do.
Supporting the local shops is not a bad idea in these times of the so-called crisis.

Wearing the first blouse that I made learning the basic pattern
in the sewing academy in Madrid.
Basic yes, simple and stylish though ;o)

summertime!

This one goes for my father, as it was his birthday a few days ago.
Should have posted then, but well, you know how it is...

1stly
Ηe simply loves boats!
All kinds of boats: real ones, drawn ones, plastic ones...
whatever, it doesn't matter!

2ndly
He doesn't own a real one, but he has already filled
our house with miniatures and drawings of them.
And apart from that, he has also made a couple of ones on his own,
under scale that is.
traditional boat from Symi island
traditional boat from Skiathos island

He even decided that our address plaque needed a touch of "sea breeze".
He just made a new one of course.
He is a true artist you see,
although he has worked with numbers all his life ;o))

And coming to the main point:
he came across this fabric

and we all now understand that it was over his powers to resist.
Wanted to have a new bag for the beach made with it.
Beeing his birthday I decided to make the effort
and tataaa!

It turned out pretty big in size: all the boats had to fit on it :o))

It was a fun job to my big surprise.
I choose a different fabric for the inside to give it a little bit of colour.

It has 2 open pockets for various stuff and mostly for his crossword magazines..

...and one with a zipper for small things not to be missed.

It is spacious and fits many things,
meaning that it can get to weigh pretty heavy, but hey...
he is a big man after all!

I am waiting for him to come back from his vacations and
see which one of them survived (giggles)
